[The 'ASIC Key' is a secret and unique code specific to the business name. And in our experience an ASIC Key mostly looks something like the following -

  • 1-12345678901 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 11 digits starting with a 1);
  • 1-21234567890 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 11 digits starting with a 2);
  • 1-1234567890 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 10 digits starting with a 1);
  • 883456789 (i.e. nine digits starting with an 8, and with the second digit being an 8);
  • 893456789 (i.e. nine digits starting with an 8, and with the second digit being a 9);
  • 1-8234567890 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 10 digits starting with an 8);
  • 1-5234567890 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 10 digits starting with a 5); or
  • 1-6234567890 (i.e. a 1, followed by a dash, followed by 10 digits starting with a 6).
If you haven’t got the ASIC Key you might be able to get the ASIC Key for this business name quickly emailed to you by ASIC as follows: If you are the holder - or one of the holders - of the business name and you phone ASIC on 1300 300 630 and you go through the various numbered options offered and eventually get through to a human being and you manage to identify yourself over the phone by correctly answering various questions which ASIC asks of you, ASIC may email you the ASIC Key - either to the email address they already have recorded against the business name, if any, or on a one-off basis to an email address you nominate over the phone.]
